Seaton bowl to County Trophy win over Ottery St Mary

The Seaton bowling week opened with a Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday when members turned out in colourful dress to enjoy bowling on a purely social outing, raising money for the club, writes Alan Nicholas.
The serious business started on Tuesday with a County Trophy match, played both home and away, against Ottery St Mary, in which Seaton took the spoils by three rinks to one and total shots scored of 86 against 75.
Top rink for Seaton being: Glen Elliott, Ray Thompson, Peter Grigg and Terry Hurley-Smith, who scored 27 shots against 14.
Wednesday was a busy day with the Triples League matches. The ladies’ Over-50s Blue team entertained Crediton Yellow, winning one triple and losing the other, but taking the overall match honours on shots scored.
The Red team were also playing at home against Feniton and this also resulted in one win and one loss.
However, Seaton ladies took the match on total shots score of 51 against 18. Top triple for Seaton was Ann Joyner, Chris Barradell and Sue Banwell-Moore.
Meanwhile, the men’s Over-60s League A team played away against Madeira A and fell to a heavy defeat on both triples, and a total shot score of 20 to 55.
The B team, who had previously suffered two defeats, bounced back with a home win against Morchard Bishop, on total shots scored, by 33 against 29 shots.
Top triple for Seaton was the one of Ed Backhouse, Bob Scull and Dave Yardley, who won 19-14.
On Friday, Seaton ladies travelled to Crediton to play in the second round of the National Top Club.
Chris Barradell won the singles match, Lilian Hurley-Smith, Pat Whitworth & Di Morley, won the triples, but the pairs and rinks results went to the home team, thus giving them the overall win.
