Seaton bowlers busy at start of new outdoor term

Seaton Ladies played a friendly against the Seaton men, writes Linda Stone.

A great time was had by all and the men certainly enjoyed it particularly as they won!

That success was followed by an Over-50s Triples League meeting with Topsham ladies, one that Seaton won 51-16 with the top triple being the one of Marian Vessey, Pat Whitworth and Di Morley.

The men’s A team were 51-18 victors over Heavitree C in an Over-60s Triples League match. The top triple was Peter Newton, Ron Rowley and Les Tooze, winning 27 shots to 10.

The first match in the Two Counties League for Seaton was played at home against Feniton.

This is a new fixture as Feniton have joined the league this season. Seaton won 71 shots to 45 gaining all 14 points. Heavitree were next to visit Seaton for a friendly mixed four rinks game.

Unfortunately, the game had to be abandoned after 14 ends due to rain. However, Seaton won 64 shots to 36. The top rink was the one of Terry Hurley-Smith, Alice Carter, Mavis Swallow and Doug Hislop.

The final game of the week saw a four mixed rink match at Bradninch that Searton won 86-65.

In Mid Devon the top Seaton rink was the one of David Millard, Mavis Swallow, Peter Greenwood and Don Yaxley.

Seaton ladies were in action in a brace of Over-50s Triples League matches.

First up they banked all six points on offer from a 40-24 success over Honiton. The top triple was the one of Maria Johnson, Pat Whitworth and Di Morley. They followed this on Tuesday with another good win, 35-21 over St Thomas.

In this one the top triple was the one of Marian Vessey, Pat Whitworth and Di Morley.

Seaton men played their opening matches in a new Over-65 Triples League season. The A team defeated Culm Vale 45-18 with the top triple comprising of Peter Newton, Ron Rowley and Les Tooze (20-7).

Seaton Over-60s B team made a useful start to their Division Four campaign with a six point home victory over Crediton B.

The top rink was the one of Mike Clarke, Doug Hislop and Jeremy Allison (24-12).

On Thursday four mixed rinks travelled to Ilminster for a friendly match that resulted in Seaton going down by a single shot!

The top Seaton rink was the one of Mike Clarke, Reg Pluck, Lin Allison and Maria Johnson (20-14).

A visit from Chardstock ladies’ on Friday was met by cold and damp conditions, but id did not stop the home side winning 50-27 and in this contest the top Seaton triple was the one of Sylvie Warrick, Mavis Swallow and Maria Johnson.

Last, but not least, a mixed triple match was played against Honiton on Sunday and this saw Honiton win 71-62.

Last weekend the club held a couple of Open Morning sessions which were well attended.

More formal coaching sessions will begin on Monday, May 18 at 10.30am.
