Seaton bowlers crowned East of Exe Mixed League champions

Seaton Bowls Club are celebrating becoming the East of Exe Mixed League champions for 2018, writes Glen Elliott,
Seaton defeated Cullompton 76-48 in a match played at Madeira in Exmouth on Saturday and that win, one gained with success on three of four rinks, saw them crowned league champions in a final held over from last year.
The top rink for Seaton, in what was a superb all-round show, was the one of P Barradell, S Banwell-Moore, T Hurley-Smith, and D Morley.
All the Seaton triples were in action this past week with the ladies Blue team at home to Sidmouth Blue, who they beat on both rinks and by the convincing final score of 41-16. The top performing rink was the one of M Johnson, L Hurley-Smith, and P Whitworth.
The ladies Red team, entertaining Crediton Yellow in a close encounter that saw the visitors win 29-28. The top rink for the Red team was the one of L Wilde, R Grigg and S Dando.
Meanwhile, the men's A team travelled to newly promoted Ottery St Mary for a match that was played on a cold and wet afternoon. However, they overcame the conditions and the home side to win overall by 34 shots to 30.
The top rink was the one of A Ross, L Tooze and D Yaxley. The men's B team, who have stepped up a division, put up a good performance at home to Madeira E, losing by just four shots at 29-25 in what was a closely contested match with the top rink being the one of M Clarke, P Grigg, and Richard Whitworth.
The newly formed C team travelled to Broadclyst to where they recorded an outstanding result, winning 33-28 in what was constant drizzle combined with a sudden deluge when both teams retired to the clubhouse for a welcome cup of tea!
The top rink was the one of G Elliott, R Pluck and Dennis Ridd.
On Thursday, Ottery St Mary were visitors in a four rink friendly played in a cool breeze, but good humour as both sides won two rinks, Seaton, just edging the result by three shots (65-62). The top rink was the one of G Elliott, E Keller, R Carnell and the sparkling Sue Dando.
