Seaton bowlers ready for winter’s sport

Seaton Bowls Club have held their Minor Competitions Day, writes Linda Stone.
The winners of the women’s Iris Aymes pairs were A Mayhew and A Carter while the singles Harman Trophy was won by M Johnson.
The men’s pairs Ray Jefferies competition went to T Talbot and A Wood and the singles George Fossett competition was won by T Hurley-Smith. The final competition of the day was for the President’s Cup played for by S Fewtrell and R McDonald. R McDonald won a closely-fought game.
A touring team from the Wessex Nomads visited on Sunday, Seaton lost 86-123. Seaton’s top rink was A Joyner, K Miles, G Mabon and P Whitworth. On Monday, Seaton sent six rinks to Crewkerne for a friendly match. Seaton won 138-107, top rink J Bellamy, A Carter, G Mabon and S Rutter.
The final match of the season was a ladies’ friendly game in Lyme Regis. It was a close finish with Lyme Regis winning by just three shots. Seaton’s top rink was L Stone, S Warrick, A Mayhew and S Rutter.
On Saturday the club’s Harvest Drive and supper closed the summer season. On Sunday, the partitions in the club house were removed and the short mats were put in place ready for the winter season.
