The Seaton Carnival Open Shore competition saw 35 anglers taking part, writes Mike Spiller.

Conditions were a little on the damp start as the event got underway, but they cleared up sufficiently for it to become a pleasant night. Competitors landed a good selection of fish with the weighing scales seeing mullet, scad, gar, mackerel, plaice, bream and gurnard.

The winner, with the best two fish of the event, was Liam Hartnell with a score of 158.9 per cent.

In his catch Liam had a mullet of 4lb 7.75oz and a mackerel of 11.25oz.

The runner-up was James Madsen with a mullet of 3lb 8.75oz and a gar of 12oz for a final total of 138.6 per cent.

Third place went to Paul Curtis with his combination of mackerel and gar for a score of 123.9 per cent.

The top junior was Olivia Jiles who had a bull huss of 1lb 12oz.

The pool win was shared by Laim, James and Steve Fowles. A donation of £35 was made to the Carnival coffers.
