Seaton Cricket Club held a celebratory dinner at Steamers Restaurant Beer.

The event was staged to celebrate a successful 2013 season on and off the pitch.

Sixty people attended the function and were treated to a magnificent after dinner speech by former Somerset skipper and opening batsman Peter Bowler who entertained one and all with a hilarious account of his cricketing career down playing his batting record of over 19000 first class runs scored. Nick Beedell, recently returned from representing England over 35s in an indoor cricket competition held in South Africa, presented a framed shirt to the clubs main sponsor, Hammett Associates, which was accepted by Peter Bowler.

Club chairman Peter Anderson said: “Good summer weather meant that we were able to play most of our matches unlike the previous year when we made a financial loss. We hope now to press ahead with a refurbishment of the outdoor nets area and repair some of the boundary netting which protects adjacent properties and pedestrians. Hopefully some of the Section 106 monies recently made available will help towards the cost of this work.”

Seaton CC is totally dependent upon volunteers to run the club and anyone locally with time to spare and willing to help would be made most welcome. The Seaton CC chairman is always happy to speak with anyone interested in getting involved with the club and is contactable on 01297 23507
