Seaton’s Tolchards Devon League B Division top-of-the-table clash at Tavistock was one of many across the league that was hit by the weather.

Not a ball was bowled in anger and, with the other of the three promotion chasing sides, Barton, washed out at Cullompton, it means it’s ‘as you were’ in terms of the top three and, with three games remaining, Seaton now know that no matter what the other two do in their last three games, 43 points from their last three games and Ben Morgan and his men will start next season in tier two of the Devon Cricket League.

Seaton travelled for two hours to battle their way through traffic to get to Tavistock, but were soon on their way home!

Skipper Ben Morgan explained, saying: “We travelled as we understood fully the desire of them [Tavisitock] to get the game on – we’d have done the same had we been hosting. When we got there the umpires took a walk out to have a look and when they returned to the pavilion they looked as if they had leapt into a swimming pool! We then had a similar journey home to the one we had there!

“It is what it is, and these things happen and, hand on heart, we are probably ‘happier’ with the outcome than Tavistock.”

As for the situation now, with Barton next and, after that, meetings with Plymstock at home and Cullompton away, Morgan says: “We will go to Barton looking to win. We won the game at our place and no doubt they will be looking to exact revenge, but then our defeat at Barton last season still rankles with us and perhaps you say ‘we owe them one’. Whatever happens at Barton, we do have that 18 point advantage over Tavistock, so our challenge will go into the last fortnight, but I’d not want to be going to Cullompton on the final day for a ‘must win’ game.”

Morgan continued: “It’s funny really, and no doubt a symptom of our success and the finishing line being so close, but for much of the season I have been unable to field the same eleven in successive games and yet it does now look as if we will be able to field the same eleven on each of the final four match days!”

So who do the three promotion seeking teams meet over the closing weeks of the campaign?
