Seaton entertained Hemyock in a Monday evening meeting that gave the home side the chance to take top spot in the East of Exe League, Division B table, writes Alan Nicholas.

The game was certainly an exciting one with the scores reflecting the tension between the teams, and the result certainly not easy to foresee.

As the last ends were played, only one rink seemed to be settled. Finally, one Seaton rink, that was down by two shots, came good, with skip Dave Yardley’s penultimate wood turning a two shot deficit, on that end, into a three shot win, and taking the result by one shot.

Seaton took the match by three rinks to one and with an overall shots score of 54-52.

The top rink for Seaton was the one of Lilian Hurley-Smith, Dennis Ridd, Sue Dando and Di Morley, 16-11. Seaton now sit top of the table with 81 points!

On Tuesday, a friendly match of four rinks was played away at Topsham.

In a very close, enjoyable match the rinks were shared and the overall result was settled by the Seaton ‘all ladies’ rink of Chris Barradell, Esdre Keller, Sue Banwell-Moore and Di Morley, 23-10, which helped towards an overall 66-64 Seaton success.

Wednesday saw two Over-60s Triples League matches.

The A team travelled to meet Honiton A where they won on both triples to take the match 38-30.

The top triple being Andy Ross, Ron Rowley and Terry Hurley-Smith.

Meanwhile, the B team beat visiting Topsham C 27-23. The rinks were shared, with the successful Seaton one comprising of Mike Clarke, Peter Grigg and John Vieth.

On Thursday, the Ladies Over-50s Triples League Blue team entertained Pinces Gardens, winning both triples and taken the match 51-24.

The top triple was the one of Maria Johnson, Lilian Hurley-Smith and Marian Vessey, with a magnificent score of 32-6.

On the same day, Terry Hurley-Smith, who last week won the Section final of the county four-wood singles, faced Section Four winner, Brian Poole of Morchard Bishop.

The match, played at Seaton, proved to be an enthralling contest and was finely balanced until the latter ends, when Brian reduced the jack length to the minimum and gained the advantage. From this he finally took the match by 21 shots to 16.

Extreme weather over Saturday and Sunday put an end to our bowling for the period, with friendly matches against Bradninch and Honiton both being washed out.
