Two Seaton-based kart racers ended the 2011 season on a high as the Dunkeswell Kart Racing Club championship finished at the end of October.

Ellis Bee, 17, in his first season as a Senior Rotax Max driver, took the title race to the wire but had to settle for second place, narrowing losing out when a difficult final round put the championship out of his reach. He claimed the fastest lap of the final.

His season was littered with great results including his first win as a senior, several fastest laps and a haul of silverware. The highlight of the year for the Axe Valley Community College sixth former had to be the South West Championships where a spirited drive saw him not only claim pole for first heat but also saw him set the fastest lap in the final on his way to third place.

Ryan Edgecombe, 13, racing in the Junior Blue class, not only took the title in his class at Dunkeswell but also contested the NKRA championship which is a nationwide event.

The final position in this championship dictates the number you race under in the following season.

Racing as no 9, Ryan can claim to be one of the top 10 drivers in his class in the country, no mean achievement for Ryan, who is sponsored by Steve Robertson, Lorry Driver Training and Devon Fleet Components.

Ryan also came third in the South West Championships making it a truly local result.
