Seaton outdoor bowlers back into action for new season

Outdoor bowling started again at Seaton Bowling Club on Saturday, writes Alan Nicholas.
The Opening Drive was held and blessed with glorious sunshine.
The traditional opening of putting up the silver jack and the first wood was performed, this year, by Honiton bowler Trevor Pipe.
Trevor has been the Seaton club greenkeeper for the last 15 years and has done a sterling job.
He retired at the end of last year, and greenkeeping duties are now to be performed by a group of dedicated and hard working members who have attended professional courses to become proficient at the job.
Trevor put up a good length jack and then showed his bowling prowess by laying his first wood alongside it. This was followed by a social friendly match between 12 teams of Seaton players on the six rinks, played over 18 ends.
The green bowled exceptionally well and all participants enjoyed the afternoon.
This was followed by the usual tea in the clubhouse and the acting captain of the day, Pat Whitworth, made a presentation to Trevor from the club members and thanked him for his years of dedication.
We now look forward to an enjoyable season of outdoor bowling against local clubs and visiting touring sides.
