Seaton were closer than most to getting their game on as the whole of the D Division programme was washed out on the first Saturday of July.

Skipper Ben Morgan said after the cancellation of their meeting with Countess Wear: “The wicket was dry as a bone as the covers did their job very well. However, the outfield took a battering from the Friday night rain and it was only the odd soggy outfield patch which killed our game off.”

The Seaton chief continued: “I have not known a season like this and it almost makes you think perhaps we ought to be looking at extending the playing season. Last year we suffered call-offs in June and July as well. Not as bad as this campaign, but frustrating nonetheless, and then September was a clear month. This time round we had glorious weather in March and April and then, as soon as the season proper starts, the rains arrive. It definitely has an effect on the end of season tables. You take a rained off game that gives you six points against a team that is able to play to a finish and picks up a maximum 20. The odd occasion doesn’t make that much of a difference, but this season some teams are being hit very badly and that certainly distorts the end of season table.”

Seaton have so far have done better than most with the weather. Saturday was their first complete wash out whilst they have only had the weather interrupt two other games, although a number of matches have been influenced to such a degree by the weather that the toss of the coin effectively decided the outcome of the contest!”

Seaton are unbeaten since a ten wicket home defeat on May 19 to Halberton and on Saturday they engage in an East Devon derby at Feniton.

When the sides met at Court Lane on match day two of the campaign Seaton won a low scoring affair by four wickets.
