An excellent campaign for both the Seaton ladies’ Over-50s and the men’s Over-60s teams has now come to an end, writes Alan Nicholas.

In the LOFTL, Seaton Blue finished in third place in Division One and Seaton Red ended the season as runners-up in Division Two and so they will also grace the top flight next year.

Not to be outdone, the men’s Over-60s Triples League teams enjoyed success.

The A team had something of a mixed season, but finished strongly to end in a mid-table berth in Division One. The B team, however, ended as runners-up in Division Three and so will step up to play in Division Two next year.

Well done, to all our teams on their efforts over the season.

The final week of the 2018 outdoor season began with a Sunday away match across the border at Charmouth.

This was a three triples match that went very much our way as Seaton took two of the three triples and won overall by 73 shots to 35.

Seaton’s top triple was a very strong one of Mike Brown, Carol Armitage and Roger Woolland, who won 35-10.

The final match of the season was against Taunton Bowling Club and was played on our Seafield Gardens green, with the contest played as four rinks.

This was an extremely tight contest, with the rinks shared, but our visitors taking the match, by just one shot, scoring 72 against our 71.

Top rink for Seaton was again a very strong one of David Ford, Dennis Ridd, Lilian Hurley-Smith and Roger Woolland, scoring 26 shots to 12.

On Saturday, it was scheduled that a Fun Day of bowling would take place, followed by a fish and chip supper in the clubhouse.

However, the ‘autumn weather gods’ decided this could not happen. Torrential rain made our green totally unplayable, so quick thinking took over, and a quiz was arranged and played indoors.

This proved to work well and a good humoured afternoon, followed by a small fundraising internal auction, took place before the fish and chip suppers were served. At the end of a very successful day, thanks went out to all the members involved, especially quiz master Maria Johnson. And that, as they say – is that – ‘here endeth another season’.
