Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton and Councillor Gaynor Sedgwick, the Mayor of Seaton, are among the distinguished guests invited to Seaton Tennis Club’s Open Day on Saturday, April 5, writes Belinda Bawden.
The annual Open Day runs from 9.30am to 4pm and is the opportunity for juniors and adults, beginners and experienced players to join in tennis play, activities and competitions, to see the new clubhouse facilities and to meet club members and the coaching team.
There will be raffle and competition prizes, a serving speed competition, racket demonstrations from Babolat and exhibition matches with coaches and star players. For those keen to join in the fun, junior open play starts with the Mini-Red (under 8 years old) at 9.30am with Mini-Orange (under 9 years), Green (under 10 years) with Junior and Teen groups following throughout the morning.
There will be two Cardio Tennis sessions to boost visitors’ fitness at 12pm and 2pm and the Serving Speed competition will run from 12pm to 1pm to test serving skills, technique and strength. Exhibition matches and free play sessions will round off the morning activities before the Tennis Club’s Chairman, Andy Butcher welcomes Neil Parish, MP, Councillor Gaynor Sedgwick, Mayor of Seaton, tennis and cricket club members, neighbours, business representatives and visitors from the local community. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The award-winning coaching team led by Ben Elliott, Devon LTA’s Coach of the Year in 2012, will be talking to visitors in between the coaching sessions, as will club members, keen to encourage visitors, young and old, to grab a racket and have a go. Competitions, demonstrations and raffles will provide fun on the sidelines while open play, coached sessions and exhibition matches will enable everyone to stretch their legs and swing their rackets! The afternoon will finish with an American Doubles tournament open to all adults.
Seaton Tennis Club is keen to share the health and social benefits of playing tennis and would like to invite any visitors, young and old, thinking about taking up tennis or returning to the game to come along on April 5 and join the fun at the Open Day.
