Silver salvers triumph for the two Johns

Honiton Golf Club: A FOGGY morning hampered the start in this week's competition for the Seniors Anniversary Salver.
First presented at the tenth anniversary of the section's formation, this competition is for pairs in a Stableford better ball format.
As the scores came in, the leaderboard fluctuated and, in a close contest, the eventual winners presented with the silver salvers were John Vessey and John Ward on 42 points.
Close behind were Ron Rogers and Norman Ede with 41 points, just beating Dave Maggs and John Weeden on countback.
It was a good week for captain John Chew as he broke his duck in match defeats, leading a fine victory at Oake Manor by four games to two with one halved.
The ladies played the medal trophy, winners of a medal during the last year incorporated with the monthly EWGA Medal. The trophy winner was vice-captain Elizabeth Ward with 72. Runner-up was Louise Mayor 73.
The EWGA Medal results were: Silver Div - Henrietta Bradshaw 72; Bronze 1 - winner Linda Northover 70; Bronze 2 - winner Lesley Oxenham 75.
The men on Sunday played a a team stableford as the first round of the Palairet was contested on the course. The winning team, combining youth and experience, were Dan Noar, John Aitken and John Frith just edging out the old- stagers Fred Thomas, John Fleetwood and John Chew on countback.
