Six AVRs took part in the Haytor Heller event on Saturday evening, writes Dave Mutter.

This is a challenging 10k run across Dartmoor starting half way up Haytor following a hilly, circular route to Houndtor and back through moorland and woods.

Despite the heat AVR Tim Lenton achieved an excellent time of 41:48, coming third overall, and first in the over 35 category.

The next AVR home was Graham Newton, taking first place in the men’s over 60s, 49th overall in 52:40.

Eleanor Woods took second place in the over 55s ladies category, and 81st overall in 57:29. Richard Hale finished in 1:01:32

Last year, Richard’s son-in-law, Sam Wickens managed to pip him at the post, but this year the tables were turned with the latter finishing in 1:03:07. Bringing up the AVR rear was Diane Newton, running on her 64th birthday to finish in 1:26:26, and taking five minutes off last year’s time. All finishers were given technical T-shirts in AVR colours of blue and yellow. Thanks to Teignbridge Trotters for a brilliant race.
