After winning the toss the home team chose top bat and they made their way to a closing total of 295-6 after their 45 overs. It proved tough going for all six bowlers that turned their arms over. Stephen Hathaway took the new ball and he ended with figures of 2-86 from nine overs while second change Kalann Nessling had figures of 2-61 from nine. The other wicket taker was Gareth Stoneman (1-39). In the Whimple reply, Nathan Kidd (10), Kevin Thompson (23) and Henry Gordon Lennox (8) were all returned to the pavilion before 60 runs were on the Fortfield score board.

The fourth wicket saw Cameron Kidd and Gareth Stoneman add 49 before Kidd fell for 28. Stoneman went on to finish unbeaten on 49 from 109 deliveries. Whimple closed on 168-8 after their 45 overs.

This Saturday (July 6), Whimple are in home action when they entertain second bottom Barnstaple & Pilton who they beat by three wickets when the teams met in North Devon on the opening matchday of the league campaign.
