Axe Cliff ladies after their first win of the season

Conditions for the 31 seniors playing the second medal round of the Masters Trophy were the complete opposite to that of the first, writes Janet Dack.

A swirling wind, severe at times, made scoring extremely difficult, with the exception of the winner of the medal Tony Strong (9) who carded a magnificent 72 nett.

Added to a similar first round score, Tony now leads the event on 144, two strokes ahead of second-placed Mike Tomes on 146.

Second place in Friday's medal went to Peter Motson (28) with 76 nett and third spot, with 77 nett, went to Dave Weston (21) who also recorded the only two on a very tricky day on the greens.

●The winner of the men’s Grainger Prior Trophy last Sunday was Nigel Pritchard (11) with a nett 70 beating Steve Anning (13) also with a nett 70 after count back. Third place went to Theo Boalch (10) with a nett 71.

Twos were achieved by Steve Anning and Andrew Hellier on the 11th and Andy Trivett with a two at the seventh.
