The second round of the McClymount cup was played on Sunday, June 6 and with a great 36-hole total of 135, the winner was Sam Bowyer Thornton, beating Ian Williams by four shots (139) and evergreen Stan Squire finishing third with 140, with another eight players all within two shots of third.
Well played Sam.
For the Tuesday Mixed competition, everyone enjoyed a lovely day of golf in perfect weather and a challenging format.
The Fun Betterball involved one stableford score to count on each hole, except on holes 6, 12 and 18, where both scores counted.
The scores were very good, with Cathy Pawley and Ken Wood winning on 51 points. Maureen Tollemache and Harry Lawrence were second with 50 points and Elizabeth Wood and John Pawley third with 48.
The yearly Ping 4BBB is a sponsored competition through England Golf and each club who wish to enter has a ‘qualifier’ to see who goes through.
This was played on Sunday, June 6 and the winners to hopefully qualify for the finals in September (although only the top 52 pairs go through) were Ann Trayling and Wendi Abrahams, with a magnificent score of 45 points.
Honiton lost for the first time in the Dartmoor League with a 4-1 defeat away to Wrangaton, the only winning pair being Spencer Macklin and Jason Lovering, which means Wrangaton have stretched their lead at the top of the table.
This Sunday sees Honiton take on Crediton in the next round of the cup.
