Honiton Town recorded a ‘superb’ result, arguably their finests since joining the South West Peninsula League, but there was a third successive defeat on Cornish soil for Honiton RFC - all the local football and rugby on the final Saturday of October

Honiton Town recorded, without doubt, their finest result since they became a South West Peninsula League club as they grounded table-topping Elmore, beating the Eagles 3-2 at Mountbatten Way – only the second defeat of the league campaign so far for the Tiverton-based side.

Rikki Pitter, Ben Ede and, after Elmore thought they had done enough to take a share of the spoils, Tim Genders scored late on to give the Hippos a richly deserved three points.

Also in the SWP League Eastern Division, Axminster Town slipped to a narrow 1-0 reversal at University

In the Macron League, Beer Albion shared four goals with hosts Topsham Town in a top flight meeting.

There was a rare defeat for Colyton, humbled 5-1 at home by Cronies who, in winning, became the first team to inflict a Macron League top flight defeat on Colyton.

Arguably the ‘result of the day’ in the Macron League Premier Division was achieved by Upottery who held table-topping Newtown to a 1-1 draw.

Feniton suffered a sixth defeat in nine top flight matches beaten 4-2 at home by Witheridge, but Lyme Regis are up to sixth after a 3-1 win at Exeter-based Heavitree United.

Axminster Town Reserves chalked up a third win of the Division Two campaign, beating University 3-2 at Tiger Way and, in Division Three, Axmouth United built on their exceptional draw the week before with high-flying Lympstone by defeating Winchester 1-0.

In Division Four Millwey Rise were edged out 1-0 on their visit to Sampford Peverell while Lyme Regis Reserves drew 2-2 with Halwill and Feniton Reserves shared six goals with hoists University of Exeter.

The undoubted result of the day in the Macron League lower divisions came in Division Five where Upottery, who had won all seven league outings so far this season, went down 2-1 at Awliscombe who went into the East Devon derby having lost all five of their games!”

Dunkeswell Rovers were held at home by Bampton Reserves, both sides netting once, but Cranbrook are up to fourth after a 4-1 win at Central.

In Division Six, Offwell Rangers sold 8-1 at home to table-topping Kentisbeare Reserves and Colyton’s game at Exeter United was abandoned 20 minutes in following a red card being issued to a home player! Seaton Town Reserves drew 1-1 at home to Chagford Reserves.

In Division Eight, Honiton Town thirds shared six goal s with hosts Lympstone Reserves and Millwey Rise Reserves lost 4-0 at home to Topsham Town Reserves.
