Seaton were 34 run winners on their B Division visit to South Devon for their meeting with Ipplepen.

Batting first, Seaton were led to 169-8 by an unbeaten half century from Joel Seward together with 39 extras and a knock of 23 from Joe Berry.

It was the promotion of regular tail ender Berry that led to the momentum in the Seaton innings being boosted. Seaton skipper Ben Morgan explained saying: “I had spoken with Joel [Seward] about him batting as low as five as we he’d missed the week before and we’d scored well. He was very happy with it and it was his knock from the middle order berth that gave us the platform. Joe [Berry] was promoted from his regular lower order berth as I felt it was a day when he might go out and crack a rapid fire 20 – and he did just that – and I was very content at tea with 169 on the board.”

In what proved to be a low scoring affair, the Seaton bowling, which skipper Ben Morgan had lamented just seven days before had been struggling to deliver consistent performances this season so far, was ‘on the money’ from the first delivery. The skipper opened with himself at one end and Ben Libby from the opposite and the pair gave their side the start they needed by restricting the hosts to just six off the first 10 overs.

Morgan then turned to Robbie Prior, who kept up the pressure, before turning to the spin of Joel Seward and that proved a master stroke!

Morgan explained saying: “The pitch dried out considerably and became quite dusty and that certainly suited Joel who bowled superbly for his wonderful match-winning return of four wickets for eight runs from a full stint of nine overs.”

It all meant that the Ipplepen reply was over with their score 135-9 and Seaton had another18 points in the tank!

Morgan said: “It was a fine all-round performance with everyone chipping in. There’s a great spirit at the club now with the 2nd XI really making their mark in their division. The games cannot come quick enough for us at the moment and long may that continue.”
