Seven 15 and 16 year old Chard and District Club swimmers qualified for the recent ASA South West Regional Youth Championships held at the newly opened 50 metre pool at the Plymouth Life Centre, writes Hannah Pullinger.
To compete at these championships swimmers have to achieve the required qualifying times in each event, which enables them to compete against the top swimmers in the West of England. All the Chard team swam well achieving many personal best times, with most also gaining places in finals.
Hannah Pullinger, 16, swam in six events: 50m and 100m breaststroke, 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, and 50m backstroke. Hannah made finals in 100m breaststroke coming fourth and 50m breaststroke coming second and winning a coveted silver medal.

Whilst at the championships the swimmers were treated with an unexpected visit to the pool by Olympic GB Team diver Tom Daley who now trains there. They were able to watch him in action in the new diving pool and afterwards the girls all took the chance to meet and be photographed with him - quite a weekend all round!
