The Eaton’s combine to win the Chivers Goblet at Honiton Golf Club
Honiton Golf Club staged the playing of the Hellier and Steele Perkins Trophies, writes Andy Wagner.
Players completed a pair of rounds to complete 36 holes in the bogey competition over the weekend.
Bogey is one of the trickiest of formats where the golfer plays match play against the course par. The opening round of the Division One Hellier competition saw Derek Richards (+5), lead the field ahead of Richard Reece (+3) and Stuart Slater (+2)
The second round had Alan Jackson (+2) ahead of Robin Smith (+2) and Stuart Slater again (+1), leaving Derek Richards to take the cup with a collective score of +4. The Division Two Steele Perkins trophy was lead in the opening round by Andy Wall (+4) ahead of Steve Charlton (+2) and Andy Wagner (+1).
However, a tremendous second round of +8 by Steve Bowyer Thornton, finishing ahead of Phil Wall’s (+1) and Richard Townsend (-2), saw him take the trophy with a collective +3
