AXMINSTER Town bounced back from the previous week's horror show with a performance of real quality that saw visiting Teignmouth beaten 4-1.

Such was the Tigers' supremacy that the visitor's goal, a penalty, came at the end of a contest in which they had been forced to play second fiddle.

The opening goal came from a sweeping three man move. Adam Cowling, who was central to all the most inventive things the Tigers did in the game, struck a sweet ball to Joel Seward who drew his defender before slipping the ball to striker partner Richie Emmet to score. The lead was doubled in the 25th minute when Emmet returned the compliment, setting up Seward and a superb first half had a polished finish when Emmett lobbed the visiting keeper to send the Tigers in three goals to the good.

The home dominance continued in the second half. Seward and Emmet combined to provide the assist for Jamie Barfoot to fire the Tigers into a 4-0 lead.

Twice more the visitors' net was struck, each time the goal was ruled out and Ollie Highett rattled the cross bar before the South Devon side got a late consolation from the penalty spot.

Tigers' boss Ray Self said: "The whole team played their part in a superb all round performance. The week before had led to a lot of soul searching and we went into the Teignmouth game looking for both a response and the three points.

"We got both and that's testimony to a very honest bunch of players that we have at Sector Lane."

Self also had praise for 18-year old Joel Seward of whom he said: "He has really grown into the side very quickly.

"He has genuine raw pace and, if he continues to listen and learn, he can have a great future in the game.

The partnership between Joel and Richie (Emmett) is really blossoming right now."

Next up for the Tigers is Saturday's home meeting with University when a similar performance to last weekend will surely lead to the banking of three more points.
