Tom Scriven celebrated his 80th birthday by running for 24 hours on the track at Axe Valley Community College and raising funds for Devon Air Ambulance.
He completed his target of 80 kilometres (200 laps) after 18 hours. After a short rest and refreshments he carried on round another 30 laps to cover a total distance of 92.5 kilometres, which is 57 miles.
Tom said that he was overwhelmed by the support of the many Axe Valley Runners who kept him company throughout his challenge.
AVR member Dave Kelf completed 54 miles and barefoot runner John Woodward did an amazing 80 miles. Special thanks go to Robin Cross for all his help in staging the event.
Liam Roberts competed in the World Age Group Duathlon Championships in Nancy, France within the male 20-24 category, on Sunday, writes Phil Bayliss.
The run-bike-run race covered distances of 10km, 37.5km and 5km, respectively. Roberts quickly moved to the front at the start of the first 10km course, and completed it a minute ahead of the next competitor in the seventh fastest time of all categories, 33:45.
On the bike, he held the lead for just under two laps of five on a technically demanding bike course, with over 90 corners within the 37.5km.
However, he came off the bike section in sixth position in 1:03:05 with the leader just over a minute ahead.
After a kilometre of the second run, Liam had moved up to third when he was struck with a crippling pain in his side which brought him to a halt, losing four minutes.
He managed to carry on and finished 10th in 2:00:58 (including transitions) with 22:17 for the final 5km run.
Roberts said that he was disappointed with this result but, on reflection, found it valuable experience to lead a high quality field for half the race and in calculated race pacing.
Emma Kiernan enjoyed the popular Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday. She was pleased to achieve a PB in 1 hour 54 minutes coming 4376th overall.
The new 7-mile Minster Challenge will be held next Sunday at 10:00am at the Axe Valley Community College. There is also a 3 mile Fun Run. More details can be found on the College website.
