Tom Woodruff, 20, of Summerdown Farm, between Northleigh and Offwell, is running the London Marathon to raise money for a Paul Newman-inspired charity called The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.Tom spent last summer working as a cabin counsellor at one of the camps in Connecticut, USA, and will be returning there this summer. It was an experience that changed his whole outlook on life. The camps are named after the gang in Paul Newman's famous film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and provide holidays for terminally and chronically ill children between the ages of 7-15. The camps are now spread throughout the USA, Europe (including the UK), Africa and Asia.Camp offers the children a week's respite care in the great outdoors, giving them opportunities to do things they cannot and will never do in everyday life. Each week camp caters for particular illnesses, whether HIV, cancer, leukemia or sickle cell. Tom is currently at university in Nottingham. He has always been involved in charity work, supporting Romanian orphanages as three of his sisters were born in Romania. If you want to support him contact Tom, or his mum Sue, on (01404) 871476.
