The Axe Cliff seniors were greeted with blustery conditions for the second round of the Masters, writes Janet Dack.

The scores rocketed as a result with a 76 nett from Mike Tomes (17) ultimately landing the winning spot.

No less than five players returned nett 77s and so count back had to be used.

Second place went to Alan Vincent (18) and third to Charles Whitbourn (28).

Those who missed out on third spot included John Pugh, Bob Berry and Jack Bannister.

Despite a poorer second round Roger Hill on 145 was still leading the field with John Pugh in second place nine shots behind. There was one 2, from Dave Weston.

On Monday, Vivary Park were the visitors and the team gained sweet revenge for the recent defeat at Taunton, wining three-and-a-half to two-and-a-half.

The winning pairings for Axe Cliff were John White and Peter Knighting, Chris Jowett and John Mant and Dave Bruce and Mike Jamieson.

The half point was won by Neil Moorcraft and Jack Bannister.
