Honiton Town bagged a second successive South West Peninsula League Eastern Division home clean sheet success thanks to a 2-0 win over an Appledore side that finished third in the division last season.
Ben Ashford served up the games top performance with a commanding shift from first minute to last.
Both goals were scored in the second half; the first coming just before the hour mark when some terrific wing play by Lewis Couch saw the ball crossed for Tom Perryman to head the opening goal.
Appledore hit back, but Town, with Ashford at the heart of things, looked solid in their defensive third and it was no more than their all-round performance deserved when a perfectly-weighted through-ball from Ashley Mitchell found Chris Long and he provided the clinical finish that the quality ‘assist’ warranted.
On Saturday (September 16), Town travel to Torridgeside to contest a Walter C Parsons Cup tie. This competition is the South West Peninsula League Cup.
