Leisure East Devon (LED), the charitable trust that operates leisure facilities on behalf of East Devon District Council, has recently qualified as an approved centre to deliver Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ) - the UK's leading award body in health and fitness training. Having received this accreditation, the trust has announced that two of the first centres to offer these courses will be Honiton Swimming and Leisure Centre and Colyton Leisure Centre. After a rigorous assessment process to establish its credentials, LED is now able to offer CYQ courses that are suitable for both beginners, that might be looking to start a career in health and fitness instruction, and professionals looking to develop their existing skills. Topics include step exercise, resistance and circuit training, exercise to music, gym instruction, nutrition and many more, with different levels of qualifications available from entry level (level one) to advanced (level three). All courses are recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and each qualification awards points that lead to automatic registration on the REPs."CYQ courses are ideal for both those who have an interest in fitness and may be considering a career in it, and those who are already in the field and want to develop their portfolio of qualifications," explains James Teed, LED's CYQ course co-ordinator. The first CYQ courses at LED begin in June, with further dates available in July, September and October, and more to be announced. To begin with, courses will be available at Honiton Swimming and Leisure Centre, Colyton Leisure Centre, and Exmouth Swimming and Leisure Centre, which offer state-of-the-art fitness and resistance training studios, and applications are welcomed from people all over the region.
