Honiton Demons Under-11s were beaten 4-1 by Whipton in their latest Exeter and District Youth League outing.

Whipton were quickly into their stride and took a second minute lead.

Demons were on the back foot, and it needed some good defending from Adam Dunford, Jake Mabbutt, Ben Borkowski and Josh Edwards to stop the side from falling further behind. When the back line were breached goalkeeper Harry Horn proved again to be in great form, pulling off a number of excellent saves.

At the other end Phoenix Welsh earned a free-kick and the free-kick from Connor Richards, whilst well struck, was marginally wide of the mark.

A neat interchange involving Kian Wright, Ross Hurford and Phoenix Welch ended with a cross into the box which eluded everybody, but it was Whipton who scored next to take a 2-0 lead into the interval.

A half-time pep talk had the desired effect for Demons were a yard sharper in the second half. However, they did concede a third goal before really coming back strongly.

Brendan Wright, making his Demons debut, became influential down the right flank whilst, at the other end of the pitch Bailey Williams was solid in his defensive duties. Ben Borkowski made an attacking surge through the middle of the park and was brought down. The Richards free-kick was kept out only by the frame of the goal! Richards was a constant thorn in the Whipton side for the half and had three more strikes well saved by the keeper.

It was no more than Demons deserved when they reduced the deficit with Corey Tratt the scorer.

Demons then pressed for a second and were caught light in the numbers at the back as Whipton scored their fourth and final goal.

The Demons Man of the Match award went to Phoenix Welch for his industrious shift both in midfield and attack.
