And so the first half of the 2009-2009 season comes to an end with a success for Honiton, as the club won its final league fixture before the Christmas break. This match had been postponed earlier in the season, following the terrible storms of early November, which had left the Ottery St Mary pitch (which is the home base for both clubs) under hail and water. At half time no goals had been scored, although numerous attempts were made by both sides to open the scoring. With honours even, the teams retreated at half time for the benefits of a team 'pep talk'.On returning to the pitch it was not long before Honiton (the visitors for this match) managed to find an opening, with Julie Tucker finally zeroing in on the back board! Both sides continued to try to find a gap to build up a score line but neither side was able to - both goal keepers earning their teams' gratitude at various times! And so, at the final whistle, the game was won by Honiton with just the one goal, a pleasing way to go into the festive season!Player of the match was Julie Tucker l Practices are suspended until early in 2009 when they will move indoors. The venue from Wednesday, January 7 will be Friends Provident Sports Facility at Clyst St Mary from 7pm to 8pm. Meet at FP Stable Club at 6.50 pm; or transport can be arranged from Honiton - just give captain Amy a ring on 07872 322805.
