Honiton Hornets 2, Isca V 0 Honiton Hornets produced a fine all-round show to bag a clean sheet success against a well drilled visiting side, write Sophie George.

Honiton made a high tempo start with Becky Hammett, Lucy Le Cocq and Jenny Smith seizing early control of the middle third of the pitch. Chances were fashioned as a result of some enterprising play, but the Isca keeper proved equal to everything that came her way!

The gloves man was eventually beaten just before the break when Amy Phillips found sufficient space to get the ball into the circle and, when the Isca keeper failed to clear; the ball fell invitingly to Beck Bond who rifled it home to give Honiton the interval advantage.

After the break the visitors came out strongly, but the home defence was in determined mood. Once the bite had been removed from the Isca attack, Honiton sealed the points with a superb goal – a contender for goal of the season!

The move began with Katrina Tucker working her way forward with a trademark run from defence before playing a superbly weighted pass to Vanessa Trude at the top of the circle and Trude applied a powerful shot up and over the advancing goalkeeper.

Isca continued to press, but were repelled consistently by the home back line of Sue Stone, Becky Bond, Emily Weigesma, Kathryn Empson and Vicky Morris.

The Honiton Player of the Match went to Katrina Tucker although eight other players received votes reflecting the great team performance.
