Honiton Youth Under-12s were well beaten in their daunting Exeter and District Youth League KO Cup tie against high-flying Division One side Okehampton Argyle.

They lost 9-0, but can take many positives from a gritty all-round show. It took Okehampton ten minutes to finally break the Honiton resistance.

A swift equaliser might have been scored had not a Caleb Freemantle, well-struck penalty, awarded after Will Whitworth had been hauled down after a mazy run, not been saved.

Honiton boss Stuart Ward said: The players need not feel down-hearted for at no point did they lose heart and give up the fight. Players to deserve extra credit were Whitworth and Freemantle plus Shane White and James Cairns who stood up well in defence, against probably the best side they will play this season. I was very pleased with the all-round effort.”

Honiton glovesman Oliver Turl made several exceptional saves.
