Division 1

Uplowman 59, Tip Top Trees 11

With just the one game taking place in division one this week it was an opportunity for Uplowman to achieve a first – holding the top spot in the league, writes Graham Ingram.

But in order to get there they had to beat the young Tip Top Trees side that has been struggling since their return to the top flight. With Viv Grant once again back to her best for Uplowman they dominated the game from the start and despite hard work from the 3Ts, and especially Hayley Spiller, the Trees could not get back into the game. As it was Uplowman recorded their highest score of the campaign to date – their 59-11 win moving them clear at the top, whilst the defeat for Tip Top Trees left them still looking for their first points of this winter campaign.

Division 2

JD Tyres *34, Pixies 14

Sidmouth Toucans 29, Otter Valley Dairy 12

Hi Q 47, Water Babes 3

There was a full fixture list in division two where the evening started with two unbeaten teams – Hi Q and Pixies.

By the end of the night only Hi Q retained their 100 per cent record. Hi Q had been up against league newcomers Water Babes, and with Bev Parris once again orchestrating the moves for Hi Q they proved much too strong for the newcomers. Water Babes worked hard throughout the game, with Sam Clarke putting in a determined performance, but they were no match for Hi Q who ran out winners by 47-3 and look keen to return to the top flight at the first opportunity.

The other unbeaten side Pixies did not fare so well when they came up against JD Tyres. Emma Griffin put in a good display for Pixies and the game started evenly. As the game progressed Tanya Broom got better and better for JD Tyres and Pixies were not able to find an answer as JD recorded a fine 34-14 goal victory – the margin of the victory denying Pixies even a point in defeat.

The third game of the evening saw Sidmouth Toucans up against the division’s other newcomers – Otter Valley Dairy.

OVD started the game still looking for their first point of the campaign, and although they did not get this they did continue to improve and this week recorded their first score in double figures, in their 12- 29 defeat at the hands of the Toucans.

Otter Valley had worked hard throughout the game with a particularly impressive display from Sarah Anscott. Unfortunately for them the experience of the Sidmouth Toucans was too much for them and with Sarah Burston playing well they had just too much experience and their win saw them hold on to the third place.
