Upottery made short work of seeing off Culmstock who they defeated by nine wickets.

Skipper Mark Joyce won the toss and invited the visiting side to bat first.

It took just 24.1 overs for the Mid Devon side to be bundled out for 89.

Ryan Pullman claimed 3-27 from nine overs and there were similar figures for Paul Wakefield who took three wickets for 31 runs from a full nine over shift.

Dan Broom also took three wickets- in his case for 14 runs from a three over cameo.

The other wicket was taken by James Mitchum.

There were a couple of catches held. Pullman held on to complete a caught and bowled and he owed one of his other wickets to smart slip catch by Simon Durrant.

There was just one casualty in the run chase with Matthew Button-Stephens dismissed for 19. That left former Yarcombe and Stockland player Simon Durrant (28) and James Mitchum (20), to see Upottery to a handsome success.

Skipper Joyce was delighted with his charges. He said: “The biggest thing for me on the day was that collectively the bowlers hit the spot. They put the ball in good areas and when you do that you take wickets.”

As for the fact that the season is one-third through, Joyce says of his side’s season so far: “It’s going OK. I see no reason why we cannot be in the mix at the end of the season and I’ll be disappointed if we are not in the top four come late August.”
