Upottery took their goal count to 113 with another powerful all-round show to defeat visiting Sidmouth Town Reserves 6-3.

First half doubles from Steve Morris and Max McKewan saw the villagers into the half-time break with a 4-0 lead. Sidmouth hit back early in the second half with a couple of goals, but the home dominance was swiftly restored with an own goal. Sidmouth struck a third before McKewan completed his hat-trick with the game’s ninth and final goal.

Steve Morris won the Man of the Match award. Upottery boss Dan Prettejohn said: “It was a funny old game in as much as we were cruising at the break, then got knocked back a bit and the players, Albeit only for a while, looked nervous and edgy. However, once the own goal restored a three goal advantage we relaxed and played very well thereafter.”

The villagers face a hectic time this coming weekend with matches on Saturday and Sunday followed by a Tuesday evening visit to Cullompton Rangers Reserves. Before the trip to Cully they face arguably the ‘game of the season’ when they travel into Exeter on Saturday to face title rivals University. The way the table is shaping it up it does look as if the winners of this game will hold the high ground for the start of the run-in.

On Sunday Upottery are again away, this time at Awliscombe to contest a Grandisson Cup tie.

Prettejohn said: “The three games in four days is going to test, and stretch, us to the limit. Adding to the mix is the problem that some of the lads also play for Taunton Sunday League sides so some will be playing Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon and then Tuesday evening! All three of our games are off course important and I’d like to win them all, but the biggest is undoubtedly the one with the students on Saturday. It’s a huge game and I am sure that whoever comes out on top will feel they will high ground for the run-in.”
