Upottery suffered a whopping 143-run defeat in the East Devon derby meeting with Kilmington.

Fielding first, Upottery were made to chase the ball to all corners of the ground as Kilmington racked up a commanding total of 271-7.

Upottery replied with a humbling 127, over a third of which came from the bat of James Mitchum.

Upottery skipper Mark Joyce said: “That was simply not good enough with either ball or bat. With the exception of the hugely consistent James (Mitchum) we really did let ourselves down with some abject batting. That was not the only part of our performance that disappointed for the bowling and fielding was under par too. All round it was simply a very bad day at the office.”

On Saturday Upottery host Chardstock and Joyce says: “I am certainly hoping to see a big performance. We owe ourselves a better show after the Kilmington effort.”
