Upottery 4, Crediton United 2 A fortnight after ending the season long unbeaten record of Dolphin, Upottery were at it again, becoming the first side to defeat Crediton United in the Fresha League Division Three this term.

The villagers made a bright start and took the lead when a Tristan Bailey free-kick was turned home by Mark Tucker for what proved to be the only goal of the first half.

The same source enabled the home side to double their lead when a Bailey set-piece was knocked home by Ollie Rice.

Teenager Sam Winslade netted a fine solo effort to make it three midway through the second half. Then the visitors began a comeback, scoring twice in quick succession.

They were then given the opportunity to level things up from the penalty spot, but Upottery keeper Jack Trevisic saved the kick and his side regained control and it was no surprise when Winslade popped up to net his second to seal a famous victory.

A delighted boss Dan Prettejohn said: “We really deserved that. The whole team put a big shift in, but the back four of Dave Sawyer, Adam Retter, Adam Crabb and Gary Moore were immense.

Two end one season long unbeaten record was special, to repeat it 14 days later is testimony to the quality we have in our side.”

Upottery sit eighth in the table and are now just seven points off a promotion place. This Saturday they entertain fourth placed Newton St Cyres.

Prettejohn says: The key now is to guard against complacency. I do not want to be reading things like, after the Lord Mayor’s show next week!”
