Despite the lockdown challenges, the Axe Valley Runners are staying sharp in these crisp winter months and 2021 started with an incredible hat-trick of personal best times.
An impressive 14 runners took part in the first of this year’s AVR Virtual 4K handicap races, the online challenge where runners time themselves over their chosen route.
The event was run during the past week, with the first three smashing their PB’s.
In first place was Jon Day in 17 minutes 38 seconds, with Eleanor Wood second in 19m 29s; Shirley Salter third 23m 09s; Amie Sibley fourth 23m 08s and Richard Matthews fifth 18m 10s.
As this was the first race in an enterprising series from the Axe Valley team, Jon Day leads the standings with 22 points, followed by Eleanor Wood 21, Shirley Salter 20, Amie Sibley and Richard Matthews both on 18 points.
The club passed on their thanks to Andrew Hartnell for organising the virtual event.
