In spite of a dire weather forecast 62 Honiton seniors turned up to play what should have been a Texas Scramble, but as the weather had weakened some players’ resolve the format was changed to an individual stableford, writes Andy Wagner.

The threatened rain did not appear and a few players managed respectable scores on a slow, wet track.

Jim Wallis was the best on the day, topping Division One with 38 points, closely followed by John Discombe on 37.

Dave Maggs came third despite fading on the back nine and Phil Donne-Davis on 34 beat Dennis Calver on countback.

Ron Cooper won Division Two on countback from Colin Hughes.

Ron Rogers, John Foster and Phil Faulkner took the other prizes.

Captain Bob Underwood was pleased to congratulate the winners of the Norman Barker Memorial Cup, Jim Wallis and Bob Cleal.

This was a DMVGA pairs knock-out competition - they were last year’s winners too!
