Axe Cliff ladies play Macmillon comp

●After two days of heavy showers the weather relented and the Seniors’ Captain’s Trophy, a Stableford competition, was played in fine early autumnal conditions.

The course was looking more like its former self but only one competitor bettered the par, the eventual winner being Geoff Hughes with an excellent 41 points.

The ever-consistent Rob Grove (16), fresh from a 38 points at Staddon Heights, claimed second place with a par equalling 37 points and third spot went to Mike Tomes (16) with 34 points.

The men are competing this week for the Carnival Cup and the results will be in next week’s Midweek Herald.

● This Wednesday, in yet again bright and breezy weather, the Ladies competed for the September Stableford and the Macmillan Cancer Spoon.

The winner, with 36 points, was Alison Cook (26) and second, with 34 points, was Diana Rogers (34).
