Twelve players from Seaton Tennis Club took part recently in the first annual competition for the Simon Prior Racketlon Trophy.

Competitors battled against each other in games to 21 points in squash, badminton, tennis and table tennis.

Three round-robin groups saw some players win by a huge margin at squash, only to have their advantage overturned by an even bigger defeat at badminton.

The final group was contested by Simon Prior (55), club coach Kevin Davis (30) and Ian Broughton (46) who ousted Simon’s son James (18) by a single point following a controversial game of table tennis!

The best runner-up position should have been taken by well respected veteran and former club captain Den Rose (70). However, following a shoulder injury, Den’s son Chris (35) took his place instead.

The final was an exciting and close run thing with remarkably just four points separating all four players in table tennis.

However, Simon’s superiority at squash and badminton saw him through to victory in the end.

Meanwhile, watching club members all agreed that the table tennis table put the space at the end of the new clubhouse extension to excellent use, despite the animated discussion it had previously provoked in some sections of the club.
