Willand Rovers Football Club are mourning the passing of Mike Mares, affectionately known as ‘Bacon’ by everyone at the club.
Mike passed away in Hospital in Exeter earlier this week and a club statement said:
“It is with great sadness that Willand Rovers announces the passing of Mike Mares, past Chairman and Honorary Vice President of the Club.
“Mike, affectionately known as ‘Bacon’ to everyone who knew him, has been involved at Willand Rovers for over 50 years in many varied roles.
“He will be perhaps be best remembered at WRFC for establishing the successful bingo sessions that are still held today and in more recent years for steadfastly, and in all weathers, manning the entry gate on match-days.
“Everyone at the club sends Darren and the rest of the family their most sincere condolences. Mike may now have left us, but he will never be forgotten in the history of Willand Rovers FC.”
RIP ‘Bacon’.
