Ashley House Stud near Axminster is celebrating breeding a Royal Ascot winner.

Hototo, by the stallion Sleeping Indian, out of the then Ashley House mare Harlem Dancer, won the Windsor Castle Stakes over five furlongs for Yorkshire trainer Kevin Ryan.

The race was worth £31k to the winner, who is a progressive two year old and was following up on an Ayr win. The colt has been placed 3,2,1,1 in his only four races and was a 12-1 winner.

Brian Hammond, who bred the colt, said: “It was a listed race and I think he may go for one of the valuable sales races next. We sold him as a foal, through Tattersalls, and Ryan bought him then. He was a nice, correctly made colt and very strong.”

The stud also bred Treasure Beach, second in the Epsom Derby and a winner at Chester and Arlington Park over 10f last year. Treasure Beach hasn’t run since April this year, after running at Meydan, on Dubai World Cup night, and Sha Tin racecourses. Hammond said: “He has been unwell but I believe he is on the mend now.
