Honiton Town Under-8s completed their Exeter and District League Saturday morning fixtures with a narrow 2-1 defeat to visiting Pinhoe Spartans.

There were fine performances from Isaac Lister in goal, Jacob England and Jack Bevan in defence and Mason Dolby in midfield for Honiton.

Town led 1-0 at half-time thanks to another fine goal from Liam Osbourne. In the second half Jess Spence came on to make her debut in goal for Town.

She did very well, was unlucky with the equalising goal and also the late solo effort that won it for the visiting team.

Honiton Under-8 coach Gary Osbourne said: “It’s been a tremendous first season for these young footballers. They have come on in leaps and bounds and I have noticed a real improvement across the board. I am particularly delighted that we have been able to introduce new youngsters to the game. At least eight of the squad that have played this year are in their very first season of experiencing what football is all about. I am already looking forward to welcoming them back as Under-9s and we’ll hopefully see continued enjoyment and improvement.”
