Several young swimmers aged between nine and twelve represented Chard and District Swimming Club in the first round of the Southern Junior League, held at Horfield Leisure Centre in Bristol, writes Paul Harrison.

Due to rescheduling some teams were unable to field enough swimmers for the gala; combined with strong competition such as Severnside Tritons and Bristol Penguins, a third place finish for Chard was very commendable.

One notable success was 9-year-old Jack Morgan obtaining his bronze speed badge with a time of 19.56 seconds in the lead on the boy’s 4x25m freestyle relay, but coach June was immensely pleased with the whole performance of the club with the swimmers obtaining a combined total of 57 personal best times.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who took part: Kaitlyn Flannigan, Bella Young, Catherine Webb, Esme Huntley, Sarah Cawley, Maddie Veevers, Mia Porter, Florence McConnell, Briana Barrand, Millie Downes, Mia Huntley, Grace Lambert, Abi Greenslade, Harriet Copeman, Alice Clark, Phoebe Clark, Jack Morgan, Aaron Biscoe, Ruben Wild, Noah Payne, Jevan Hampton-Rumbold, Lyndon Smith, Freddie Coles, Sam Hare, William Hawkins, Jimmy Brett, Joe Shrubb, Louis Whittome, Joe Swan, Louis Rood, Ben Webb, Oliver Collins.
