More than 60 members of the Honiton U3A gathered at the Mackarness Hall for their final meeting of the year – the Christmas social, writes Val Frood.
Everyone was greeted with a glass of wine and once seated, each table was invited to take part in a music-themed quiz – with 19 questions ranging from classical to pop and modern to medieval - so there was something for everyone. The overall winning table consisted of Elaine and David Mumford, Karen and Chris Hicks, Gene Freemantle, Janet Powell and Val Frood.
Meanwhile, around the room there were suspended 12 bags, each one containing one or two mystery objects which had to be identified - but only by ‘feeling’.
This proved to be far more difficult than first thought and produced a lot of discussion and deliberations.
Eventually, when everyone was satisfied that their tactile explorations were complete the contents of the bags were revealed and many were surprised to see that they ranged from such diverse objects as a rucksack to a hand sander and a hat pin to a pencil case.

All this brain searching was rewarded with a delicious buffet served with tea and coffee and the afternoon concluded with a free prize draw.

Chairman Janet Driscoll thanked everyone for coming and hoped that they had had an enjoyable afternoon.
She also thanked the committee for all their hard work and in particular Susan Unsworth who devised the quizzes.
She wished everyone a very happy Christmas and added that she looked forward to seeing them again in 2018, the first meeting being on Wednesday, January 17, at The Beehive.
