New performers and new audience heard new songs on new instruments. Brian Rennie came all the way from Manchester to visit his family here, who promptly dragged him to the Grove with his alto sax and he played Rabbie Burns and jazz standards with equal expertise. Then Peter Arnold brought out his keyboard, for the first time ever in public, and gave a gutbucket rendition of St James Infirmary. Susannah Belliver, a very welcome visitor who runs a similar folk club at Tiverton, borrowed the keyboard to belt out a stomping version of I Was Walking In The Park, and recruited Robert to accompany her on the bluesy You Gotta Move. Our regulars contributed their usual mix of the familiar and the outright startling, in particular the Bard of Seaton, Ted Dowse, who seems to come up with fresh and hilarious verse and song every month. There were notable offerings from Frances 'Bard of Beer' Lee, Mitch '12 fingers' Norman, Mike Gee (who gave us some lute music on his guitar), Vivienne Clements singing and playing the whistle and the sublime guitar and voice of Robert Wheaton.
