The Otter Vale Art Society’ will be running its 41st Anniversary Annual Exhibition in Ottery St Mary in August

This year the society has chosen to support Hopiscare and proceeds from the raffle, which includes generously donated original artwork from several local, well-respected artists, will be presented to the charity along with a donation from the society.

More than 150 new, original works of art from East Devon artists are expected to go on show in Ottery St. Mary in August at the annual exhibition of the Otter Vale Art Society.

The members, including the president, well-known East Devon artist Phil Creek, are working hard to make this exhibition their best yet.

The exhibition, which will showcase the latest work from the society’s membership will be held at the Institute, Yonder Street, between Friday, August 4 and Saturday, August 12, and is open from 10am to 5pm each day, admission £1.

The membership consists of about 80 local professional, semi-professional and amateur artists, including still life, portraits and landscape paintings as well as sketches, drawings and three dimensional works of art.

Nearly all the works on display will be offered for sale, including Phil Creek’s original painting of Sidmouth sea front.

Prices start at just £40 for framed drawings and paintings; there will also be unframed works starting at only £10.

As in previous years, visitors to the exhibition will be invited to vote for their favourite work.

Last year the prize went to Mike Bird for his evocative and atmospheric oil painting of The Wreck of the Sparkling Nellie.

Alison Witchell, publicity officer said: “On the first Friday of each month we meet for a demonstration of technique by a leading professional artist, which is often followed by a practical workshop.

“This enables members with every level of experience and knowledge to expand and develop their skills.

“With such a wealth of local talent this vibrant and exciting exhibition is not to be missed and gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy affordable, unique pieces of artwork.

“It’s advisable to come early in the week, and early in the day so as not to miss out on a special piece of art that can enhance your home’’.
