Author Anna Pavord set to speak about tulips when she visits Axminster.

Author Anna Pavord will giving a talk in Axminster in June.

The self-confessed ‘tulipomaniac’ will be talking on her favourite subjects covered in her dozen books, which include The Tulip and Landskipping.

Anna’s huge volume The Tulip is full of detail on the history, development and growing of tulips, but also on the mad 18th century investment rush to buy tulip bulbs, and the crash which followed with many bankruptcies.

She is also inspired by landscape, and the poets and painters who did so much to encourage our appreciation of it

She lives in a remote part of Dorset, where she has a large garden which she has developed over 20 years.

As well as writing for the Observer, for a similar length of time, she has contributed to Country Life, Country Living, and Elle Decoration, and is associate editor of Gardens Illustrated.

The event on Sunday, June 10, at 2.30pm, in the Guildhall, is in aid of the work of the Marie Curie nurses for anyone with a terminal illness.

Tickets, costing £10, to include a full Marie Curie Blooming Great Tea Party, will be on sale through Archway Bookshop or by phoning 01297 33655.
