THE latest exhibition of work by Axminster artist Michael Morgan goes on display in Beer at the weekend.

The show coincides with his 80th birthday and 20 of the 39 paintings featured in the exhibition's catalogue have been sold in advance of the private viewing, on Saturday, June 28.

It is the artist's seventh solo exhibition at the gallery and is his first for two years.

Following a distinguished academic career, Michael turned his attention to painting, previously a hobby, and slowly evolved his own style.

He added new zest to the watercolour medium with his tightly constructed imagery and bold use of colour.

While small, the sheer presence of his works makes them command attention far beyond their scale.

The exhibiton present him as an artist in full command of his structural style.

The work is on display at Marine House, in Beer, and will run until Friday, July 11.
